About Us

Key West Takes Care of Its Own

Sister Season Fund began in 2005 with a simple idea: when the people who take care of Key West suddenly need a little help themselves, our community should be there for them.

More than 20 years later, that idea remains at the heart of everything we do.

Key West Takes Care of Its Own

Our Mission

Sister Season Fund provides temporary financial assistance to qualifying Key West hospitality and tourism workers who experience an unexpected loss of income due to illness, accident, natural disaster or a state/nationwide declared emergency.

Our goal is simple: help our neighbors remain safely housed and financially stable while they work toward getting back on their feet.

Why We Exist

Hospitality and tourism are at the heart of Key West.

Every day, thousands of people work behind the scenes and on the front lines to welcome visitors, run our restaurants and bars, operate our hotels and attractions, and keep our tourism economy moving.

For many of these workers, even a temporary interruption in income can create an immediate financial crisis.

An unexpected illness or accident shouldn’t have to mean losing your home.

Sister Season Fund helps bridge that gap.

How We Help

For approved applicants, Sister Season Fund provides temporary assistance with:

  • Rent
  • Mortgage payments
  • Utilities

Payments are made directly to the landlord, mortgage lender, or utility provider – not to the applicant.

It’s a straightforward approach designed to help meet an immediate essential need.

Rooted in Key West

Sister Season Fund is a grassroots nonprofit built on neighbors helping neighbors.

Our work is made possible by the people, businesses, donors, volunteers and community partners who continue to step forward year after year.

They understand something we’ve always believed:

“Key West is more than a place. It’s a community, and communities take care of each other.”

Important Direct-Payment Policy: The Sister Season Fund pays landlords, mortgage companies, Keys Energy Services, and FKAA water authorities directly. No cash is issued to applicants.
